Bernard Glassman (Vice-Chairman) is a social entrepreneur, teacher and lecturer with an obsession (tempered by the years) for emerging technologies. Through his consulting practice, 3AM Communications, Glassman helps health communicators learn about and use new media. Glassman has been a hospital administrator for marketing, a marketing research director for the world’s largest pharmaceutical marketing research firm, the founder and owner of 3 software development companies, on the faculty at the Harvard School of Public Health, the co-author of 3 textbooks for Japanese English students, a pioneer in affordable/easy-to-use health communications technology, and an ultramarathoner.

Paul Jones is a Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and in the School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina — Chapel Hill. For the past 14 years he has been director of ibiblio.org, the Public’s Library, where people who want to share information in all digital forms are assisted in reaching others and in creating a living accessible archive.

James Protzman (Treasurer/Secretary) has 24 years of experience in developing and growing businesses. He championed the concept of integrated marketing in the 1980s with his own market research and communications company, FGI. Prior to founding FGI, James served as director of communications for North Carolina Public Television. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, James earned his master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Journalism. He is a former member of the town council of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and is currently working on two novels.

Brian Russell (Chairman) is the founder of Orange Networking and a resident of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. While serving in AmeriCorps he saw first hand the real digital divide in America. It was then he decided to do something significant to increase equal access to the Internet. He was on the Chapel Hill Technology board and continues to advocate for the creation of municipal broadband networks. Presently he’s a Senior Web Designer.

Jane Stein is presently an owner and business manager of CHICLE, the Chapel Hill Institute for Cultural and Language Education. She has a Masters Degree in Operations Research and Systems Analysis and a Doctorate in Public Health. She first worked on mainframes using cards, then on minicomputers, and welcomed the microcomputer revolution. She served as President of UNC’s campus Macintosh group at its inception and is still an Apple user. She wishes governments would provide the computer access that is taken for granted in other countries, but, as it doesn’t seem to be a national priority, is hoping that Orange Networking can fill some gaps.

Orange Networking (ON) is a non-profit organization working to foster equal access to the Internet so that all people may benefit from the use of digital communication tools. ON shall provide support to people who live or work in Orange County, North Carolina in the use of open, safe, and accessible computer networks.
